FAQs / Online Reputation

What is ORM in social media?

ORM in social media means watching what is said about your business on platforms like Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and local community groups, replying where it helps, and posting enough of your own real work that your accounts show the business as it actually is. For local trades the community groups matter far more than the follower count.

Social platforms do two things to a reputation. They host what you post, and they host what everyone else posts about you. The second one is where the damage and the opportunity both live. A complaint in a local Facebook group is read by hundreds of nearby customers, and so is a recommendation.

Managing it starts with being findable and consistent: the same business name, logo, phone number and description on every platform, matching your website and Google profile. Inconsistent details are how businesses lose recommendations to a competitor with a similar name.

Then it is about listening. Search the platforms for your business name every month, join the community groups for the areas you cover, and set notifications for mentions and tags. Most owners only find a damaging post when a customer mentions it, weeks later.

When you reply, reply as the business, briefly and without arguing. Offer to sort it out privately, then do so. Readers judge the tone, not the outcome. And keep posting real work, because ten photographs of finished jobs say more than any response ever will.
