FAQs / Google Business Profile

Why is Google asking to verify my business?

Google asks for verification to confirm the business is real and that you are entitled to manage it. On a profile that was already verified, a fresh request usually follows a change to key details such as the business name, address or category, or something that made Google want to check again.

Verification is how Google keeps fake and hijacked listings off Maps. Until a profile is verified, Google cannot be confident the business exists at the details given or that the person editing it has any right to. That is why a new or newly claimed profile always asks you to verify before it can be fully managed.

If your profile was verified and the request has appeared again, look at what changed recently. Moving to a new address means verifying again, and Google says a change of business name can require it too. Large changes to your category can also prompt a check. Google may simply ask for more information or for you to update your details before re-verifying.

Sometimes the request appears with no obvious change behind it. Google does not always explain why, so the practical move is to complete the request rather than spend time guessing at the cause.

Deal with it promptly. While a profile is waiting to be re-verified, some edits may not publish, and a profile that stays unresolved for a long time is harder to sort out. If you are about to make a major change such as a move or rebrand, expect the request and plan around it.
