Google Business Profile FAQs

Your Google Business Profile is often the first thing a customer sees before they ring. These answers cover what it costs, how to get it verified and how to make it work harder, based on Google's current guidance.

Is Google Business Profile free?
Yes. Creating, claiming, verifying and managing a Google Business Profile costs nothing, and Google does not sell better placement in the free local results. The only money involved is optional: Google Ads, or paying someone to manage the profile for you.

How to improve Google Business Profile?
Fill in every section accurately, pick the primary category that matches what you mainly do, list your real services, and keep hours, photos and posts current. Then ask every customer for a review and reply to each one. A complete profile that is clearly looked after gives people more reasons to call you.

How do I contact Google to verify my business?
You usually do not need to contact anyone. Verification starts inside your profile: sign in, find your business and select 'Get verified', then follow the method Google offers. If that fails or no method works, use the Business Profile Help Centre's contact option, which needs you to be signed in.

Can I verify my business on Google by phone?
Sometimes. Phone call or text is one of the methods Google can offer, sending a code to the business number on your profile. It only appears if Google decides your business is eligible, and automated phone systems cannot receive the code.

Why is Google asking to verify my business?
Google asks for verification to confirm the business is real and that you are entitled to manage it. On a profile that was already verified, a fresh request usually follows a change to key details such as the business name, address or category, or something that made Google want to check again.

How long does it take for Google to verify your business profile?
Google says verification reviews usually take up to 5 business days, and occasionally longer. Phone, text and email codes can be close to instant, while a submitted video has to be reviewed first.

How do I know when my Google Business Profile is verified?
Google sends a confirmation email when verification succeeds, and the 'Get verified' prompt disappears from your profile. If you manage several locations, Business Profile Manager shows a status for each one, such as Verified, Pending verification or Unverified.

Why is my Google Business Profile not verified?
Usually because verification was never completed, a video or code was rejected or expired, or recent edits to the name, address or category sent the profile back for checks. Open the profile, look for a 'Get verified' or 'Review issues' prompt, and follow what Google asks.

Is there another way to verify Google business?
Possibly. Google can offer a recorded video, a live video call, a phone call or text, email, a postcard, or instant verification if you have already verified your website in Google Search Console. Google decides which methods each business sees, and if more than one is shown you can switch to another.
