How to maintain SEO?
A practical routine: check Google Search Console weekly for drops and errors, review and refresh your most important pages monthly, fix technical issues as they appear, keep business details accurate everywhere, and add new content for searches you don't yet cover quarterly.
Maintaining SEO is a routine. The schedule below works for most small business sites.
Weekly (10 minutes): open Google Search Console and check two things: the Performance report (are clicks and impressions trending down anywhere?) and the Indexing report (are pages dropping out of the index or throwing errors?). Treat it as a quick scan for warning signs, nothing more.
Monthly (an hour or two): review your most important pages, the ones that bring enquiries, and check whether anything is out of date: prices, services, areas, photos, staff, opening hours. Fix any broken links and check your site speed hasn't slipped (PageSpeed Insights is free). Check your Google Business Profile for unanswered reviews and questions, and post something if it's been quiet.
Quarterly (half a day): look at the queries in Search Console that you're getting impressions for but few clicks. Those are pages close to working that need improving. Then look at what customers ask you in real life that your site doesn't answer, and add pages for it. This is where maintenance shades into growth: covering more of what your market searches for.
Ongoing: keep earning reviews, keep adding real photos of real work, and keep your details consistent everywhere. These small trust signals compound better than any technical trick.
The meta-rule: measure before and after everything. Any change worth making is worth checking three weeks later in Search Console to see whether it helped. That single habit separates maintenance that works from maintenance theatre.
