UTM builder: tag your links so you know where enquiries come from
Add a tag to the links in your ads, emails and posts. When someone calls or fills in your form, you can see which link sent them.
Use short names with dashes, and keep them the same every time. Capitals and spaces are tidied for you.
Your tagged link
Fill in the page and a campaign name to get your link.
Google Ads tags its own clicks, so you rarely need this for Google ads. Use it everywhere else.

Frequently asked questions
- What is a UTM tag?
- A few words added to the end of a link that say where it was posted. Google Analytics and our enquiries inbox read them, so a call or form from that link is labelled with the ad, email or post that brought it.
- Do I need UTM tags for Google Ads?
- Usually not. Google Ads tags its own clicks automatically, which is called auto-tagging. Use UTM tags for everything else: Facebook and Instagram ads, emails, your Google Business Profile and printed QR codes.
- What should I put in source and medium?
- Source is the site or app, such as facebook or newsletter. Medium is the kind of link, such as paid_social, email or print. Pick one name for each and keep using it, because Facebook and facebook count as two different sources.
- Can I use a tagged link in a QR code?
- Yes. Build the link here, then turn it into a QR code. Anyone who scans it is counted against that flyer or sign.
- Does the tag change the page people see?
- No. The page opens as normal. The tag only tells your reports where the visit came from.
