Why am I not getting reviews on Google?
The most common reason is simply that nobody is being asked, or the ask arrives late and with too many steps. Less often, reviews are being left but filtered by Google's spam systems, or the Business Profile itself is unverified so requests go nowhere useful.
Start with the honest question: is every customer actually being asked? Most businesses believe they ask and in practice ask occasionally, when someone remembers, days after the job. Satisfied customers rarely think to leave a review unprompted. The habit of an immediate, personal ask after every single job is what separates review-rich businesses from review-poor ones doing identical work.
Next, look at friction. If your request says 'find us on Google and leave a review', the customer has to search, pick the right listing, sign in and find the button. Each step loses people. A direct review link or QR code from your Business Profile removes all of it, and the difference in response is dramatic.
If people tell you they left a review and it never appeared, Google's filters are the likely cause. Reviews get held or removed when they come from brand-new accounts, from the business's own wifi or device, from several people in the same household in quick succession, or in sudden bursts after long silence. The fix is patience and pacing: genuine requests, spread over time, from customers using their own phones.
Also check the foundations. An unverified Business Profile, a duplicate listing splitting your reviews, or a profile suspended for a policy issue will all quietly starve you. Two minutes in your profile dashboard confirms whether the plumbing works.
Finally, remember that silence is information. If customers are asked promptly and still do not respond, the ask may be landing wrong: too formal, too long, or from a name they do not recognise. A one-line text from the tradesperson who was in their kitchen that morning nearly always outperforms an automated corporate email.
